The Randolph Officers’ Spouses’ Club is sponsoring scholarships for high school seniors graduating in 2010. Among those awards are the Jane Hamm scholarship, the Cupe John scholarship (given to a student planning to major in performing arts: either dance, music, or theatre) and individual scholarships. Scholarship awards will be based on academic achievement, leadership, character, test scores, and involvement in community and social activeties.
Financial need is not a factor. Eligible students must be:
• Graduating seniors attending high schools in the Greater San Antonio area who are dependent sons or daughters of active duty personnel stationed at Randolph, or who are on remote assignment directly from Randolph;
• Graduating seniors in the Greater San Antonio area who are dependents of active duty military personnel who have been transferred from Randolph to a new base, and who are not eligible for consideration at the new base;
• Graduating seniors attending high schools in the Greater San Antonio area who are dependent sons or daughters of Retired or deceased Air Force personnel;
• Graduating seniors attending high schools in the Greater San Antonio area who are dependent sons or daughters of Randolph Officers’ Spouses’ Club or ROSC members.
All applicants must submit with their applications a photocopy, front and back, of a current military dependent ID card. If a military dependent moves to a new base, and the application deadline at the new base has passed, or if there is no scholarship program at that base, the dependent remains eligible for the Randolph program and may apply. However, if that dependent moves from Randolph, and the deadline for the OSC scholarships at the new base is still open, the dependent must apply to that program, and will no longer be eligible for the Randolph program.
If by May 1, 2010, an applicant accepts an appointment to any military service academy, a four-year ROTC scholarship, or ANY four-year all expenses paid scholarship, the student must decline the OSC scholarship.
In addition to our regular scholarships, we will also be awarding several Opportunity Awards. These will go to graduating seniors who meet basic eligibility requirements for the ROSC scholarships; however, these students will have a grade average of no higher than 89 at the beginning of their senior year, for whatever reason. These awards will recognize that there are many military dependents who may have had to make numerous moves/relocations because of parents’ military obligations. Often these changes of school setting play havoc with grade point averages. We want to reach out to these students who show promise for pursuing programs of higher education. Application deadline for this year’s ROSC scholarship awards will be January, 2010. Students may obtain application forms from their high school counselors by requesting the Bexar County Clearinghouse Application; students should also have their counselors nominate them for the scholarship (Randolph OSC places no limit on the number of eligible students who may apply/be nominated).
Eligible students residing outside Bexar County, e.g., Boerne, Canyon, Clemens, Marion, New Braunfels, Smithson Valley, may obtain applications for ROSC Scholarships/Awards from their senior counselors. Eligible students UNABLE TO OBTAIN AN APPLICATION from a high school counselor may contact Randolph OSC Scholarship Chair person, Marilyn Lewis at (210) 656-7668.
